Commentary
Praised by Voltaire, this great financier took charge when the State had accumulated two billion livres of debt. He succeeded in restoring credit thanks to loans from the banker Samuel Bernard but was dismissed by the Regent upon the death of Louis XIV. A worthy emulator of his uncle Colbert, his successors made him missed.
