La famille Bignon forma une dynastie d'érudits dont Armand Jérôme ne fut pas le plus brillant représentant mais parvint, sans avoir jamais écrit, à rentrer à l'Académie Française Il était prévôt des marchands durant les fêtes du Mariage de Louis XVI et Marie-Antoinette mais ne semble pas avoir subi de défaveur après l'accident de feu d'artifice qui tua de nombreux spectateurs.
The Bignon family formed a dynasty of scholars of which Armand Jérôme was not the most brilliant representative but managed, without ever having written, to enter the French Academy. He was provost of merchants during the celebrations of the Marriage of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette but does not seem to have suffered any disfavor after the fireworks accident which killed many spectators.
