Commentary

Faustin Soulouque (1782-1867) est élu président par le Sénat d’Haïti en 1847. En 1849, il se fait proclamé Empereur d’Haïti sous le nom de Faustin Ier. Il est renversé en 1852 par le général Fabre Geffrard.
Cette monnaie vaut un seizième de gourde.
Faustin Soulouque (1782-1867) was elected president by the Senate of Haiti in 1847. In 1849, he had himself proclaimed Emperor of Haiti under the name of Faustin I. He was overthrown in 1852 by General Fabre Geffrard. This coin is worth one sixteenth of a gourde
