Reverse description : Tyché tourelée, voilée et drapée assise à gauche sur un trône, tenant une palme de la main droite ; à ses pieds à droite, fleuve (Knydos) aux longs cheveux flottants en mèches nageant à droite ; contremarque, tête de Caracalla dans un ovale derrière Tyché.
Reverse legend : TARSE-W- N MHTROPOLEOS

Commentary


La particularité du Prieur 763 est de comporter la contremarque avec la tête de Caracalla au revers. Seulement trois exemplaires avec la contremarque Howgego 843 au revers dansRPC III/ 3260 et un de plus dans le RPC online.
Ces émissions sont des tridrachmes et les poids moyens ne laissent aucun doute. Autant les Prieur 771 à 774A sont des tétradrachmes (poids moyen constaté 13.31 g), autant les Prieur 759 à 770 sont des tridrachmes, poids moyen constaté de 9.68 g.
À noter, la Tyché peut être assise sur un rocher comme à Antioche mais aussi sur un trône orné. Elle n’est plus dirigée vers la droite mais est orientée maintenant à gauche.
The particularity of Prior 763 is to have the countermark with the head of Caracalla on the reverse. Only three examples with the countermark Howgego 843 on the reverse in RPC III/ 3260 and one more in the RPC online. These issues are tridrachms and the average weights leave no doubt. As much as Prior 771 to 774A are tetradrachms (average weight observed 13.31 g), as much as Prior 759 to 770 are tridrachms, average weight observed 9.68 g. Note, the Tyche can be seated on a rock as in Antioch but also on an ornate throne. She is no longer facing right but is now oriented left

HADRIAN

(08/11/117-07/10/138)

Hadrian was born in 76 in Italica. Pupil of Trajan, he married in 100 Sabine, grand-niece of the emperor, and made a career in the staff of the latter, in particular during the Dacian campaign. In 117, he succeeded Trajan, and traveled for twenty years, visiting the entire empire - the only Emperor to have lent himself to this exercise. In 122, Hadrian went to Spain. Childless, he first chose Aélius to succeed him in 136, but the latter died on January 1, 138. Hadrian then adopted Antonin on February 25 and himself chose Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus as Antoninus' heirs. He died on July 10, 138.
