Patine sombre hétérogène avec une petite concrétion verte au revers. Usure régulière sur les hauts reliefs. Présence de coups et rayures

Obverse description : Un anglais et un africain se serrant la main, maisons et hommes travaillant dans l’arrière plan. Signé : G. F. P..

Obverse translation : Nous sommes tous frères, abolition du commerce des esclaves par la Grande-Bretagne.

Reverse legend : (LÉGENDE ARABE) .

Reverse description : Légende en 5 lignes divisée en deux parties par une ligne et deux palmes entrecroisées. Signé : G. P. FECIT (difficile à lire).

Reverse translation : Commerce d’esclaves aboli en Angleterre en 1807, sous le règne du Roi George III. Nous sommes tous frères.

Commentary

Cette médaille fut réalisée vers 1814 pour être distribué dans la colonie du Sierra Leone comme token, sans doute d’une valeur d’un penny.
La traite fut interdite par l’Angleterre le 2 mars 1807 mais l’esclavage ne sera abolit définitivement qu’en 1833. .
This medal was made around 1814 for distribution in the colony of Sierra Leone as a token, probably worth one penny. The slave trade was banned by England on March 2, 1807, but slavery was not definitively abolished until 1833.
