Commentary

Curieusement, l’atelier de Rome ne frappa que très peu de monnaies au nom de la femme de Gordien III, alors que l’atelier d’Egypte frappa monnaie en son nom durant plusieurs années.
Curiously, the Rome mint minted very few coins in the name of Gordian III's wife, while the Egyptian mint minted coins in her name for several years.

Historical background

GORDIANUS III and TRANQUILLINA

(241-244)

Gordian III married the daughter of the prefect of the Praetorian Timésithée, Tranquillina, in 241. The following year, she accompanied the emperor to the East. After the death of his father, replaced by Philip the Arab, we lose track of him. Gordian was assassinated in 244 at the instigation of the new prefect of the Praetorium.
