Reverse legend : PROVIDENTIA AVG/ S|C.
Reverse description : Providentia (la Providence) debout de face, regardant à gauche, tenant un globe de la main droite et un sceptre transversal de la gauche.

Gordian III is the grandson of Gordian I and the nephew of Gordian II, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he is chosen as Caesar by Balbin and Pupian and succeeds them after their assassinations.
