Flan large, ovale et irrégulier. Très beau portrait inhabituel. Revers de haut relief. Belle patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés et bleutés acier

Obverse description : Buste radié et cuirassé de Gordien III à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (B4).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Gordianus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L'empereur Gordien pieux et heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : FORTVNA REDVX.
Reverse description : Fortuna (la Fortune) drapée, assise à gauche sur un siège, tenant de la main droite un gouvernail et de la gauche, une corne d'abondance.
Reverse translation : “Fortuna Redux”, (Le retour de la Fortune).
Commentary
Rubans de type 3. Cuirasse formée d’écailles. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Gordian III is the grandson of Gordian I and the nephew of Gordian II, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he is chosen as Caesar by Balbin and Pupian and succeeds them after their assassinations.
