Flan large, légèrement irrégulier mais bien centré. Très bel exemplaire présentant un joli revers de style fin ainsi qu’un très beau buste de Gordien III. Patine grise de collection

Obverse description : Buste radié, drapé et cuirassé de Gordien III à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A2).
Obverse translation : "Imperator Cæsar Gordianus Pius Augustus", (L’empereur césar Gordien pieux auguste).
Reverse
Reverse legend : LIBERALITAS AVG II.
Reverse description : Liberalitas (la Libéralité) debout de face, regardant à gauche, tenant de la main droite une tessère et de la gauche une double corne d'abondance.
Reverse translation : “Liberalitas Augusti iterum”, (La deuxième Libéralité de l'auguste).
Commentary
Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum.

Gordian III is the grandson of Gordian I and the nephew of Gordian II, ephemeral emperors of the year 238. At the request of the people of Rome, he is chosen as Caesar by Balbin and Pupian and succeeds them after their assassinations.
