Commentary

Poids très lourd. Sur les monnaies syriennes, le portrait de l'empereur est beaucoup moins stéréotypé que sur les deniers romains ; preuve est que les graveurs syriens étaient capables de rendre les portraits de manière plus expressive et plus individuelle.
Very heavy weight. On Syrian coins, the portrait of the emperor is much less stereotypical than on Roman denarii; proof is that Syrian engravers were able to render portraits in a more expressive and individual manner.

Historical background

GETA

(06/198-26/02/212)

Caesar

Born on May 26, 189, Geta became Caesar in 198 and received the title of pontifex the following year. He accompanies his father and his brother to Brittany from 208 and is raised to Augustat the following year. When Septimius Severus died in York on February 4, 211, the two brothers brought their father's ashes back to Rome and became co-emperors. But they hate each other. Finally, after a year of joint rule, Caracalla kills his brother in their mother's arms. Geta is dedicated to "damnatio memoriæ" (damnation of memory). His supporters are systematically massacred.
