Portrait tout à fait inhabituel, plus mature. Revers magnifique. Flan légèrement taché au droit avec une patine à reflets dorés

Obverse description : Buste drapé, tête nue de Géta à droite, vu de trois quarts en arrière (A°21).
Obverse translation : "Publius Septimius Geta Cæsar Pontifex", (Publius Septime Géta césar pontife).

Reverse


Reverse legend : FELICITAS - PVBLICA.
Reverse description : Felicitas (la Félicité) debout à gauche, tenant un caducée de la main droite et une corne d'abondance de la gauche.
Reverse translation : "Felicitas Publica", (La Félicité publique).

Commentary


Le portrait de ce denier n’a plus rien à voir avec le précédent (MONNAIES XXIII, n° 511) et semble devoir être daté plus tardivement entre 206 et 207.

Caesar

Born on May 26, 189, Geta became Caesar in 198 and received the title of pontifex the following year. He accompanies his father and his brother to Brittany from 208 and is raised to Augustat the following year. When Septimius Severus died in York on February 4, 211, the two brothers brought their father's ashes back to Rome and became co-emperors. But they hate each other. Finally, after a year of joint rule, Caracalla kills his brother in their mother's arms. Geta is dedicated to "damnatio memoriæ" (damnation of memory). His supporters are systematically massacred.
