Historical background

GERMANY - ELECTORATE OF SAXONY - FREDERICK CHRISTIAN

(1722-1763)

Frederick IV of Saxony (Friedrich Christian) was born on September 5, 1722. Son of Augustus III of Poland, Elector of Saxony and Marie-Josèphe of Austria, he is the brother of Marie-Amélie, wife of Charles of Spain , King of Naples and Sicily then of Spain, Marie-Josèphe, Dauphine of France and Clément-Wenceslas, Archbishop-Elector of Trier. Before his accession to the throne, he bore the title of Prince of Poland. Having become elector of Saxony on the death of his father, he could not however succeed him on the throne of Poland. When he died on December 17, 1763, his brother Xavier was regent during his son's minority from 1763 to 1768..
