Georges II (2/04/1826-25/06/1914) succeeded his father Bernard-Éric (1800-1882) in 1866 under pressure from Bismarck. He married three times: the first time with Charlotte of Prussia (1831-1855) in 1850, then Feodora of Hohenlohe-Langenburg in 1858, finally in 1873 a morganatic marriage with Hélène Franz who was nicknamed "the free woman of Heldburg".
