Exemplaire sur un petit flan, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait. Revers un peu brouillé avec une frappe un peu molle. Patine grise avec des reflets métalliques dorés

Obverse description : Buste radié et cuirassé de Gallien à droite avec pan de paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant (A).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Publius Licinius Gallienus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Publius Licinius Gallien pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : VICTORIA GE-RMAN.
Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) et Gallien debout face à face ; la Victoire est debout à gauche tournée à droite, tenant une couronne de la main droite et une palme de la main gauche ; Gallien est lauré et vêtu militairement, tenant un globe de la main droite et une longue haste renversée de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Germanica”, (La Victoire germanique).
Commentary
Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Cuirasse lisse pointée. C’est la première fois que nous proposons un antoninien de ce type à la vente qui semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.

Augustus with Valerian I
Gallien, the son of Valérien I, was born in 218. He was immediately associated by his father with power and was in charge of the West, while his father went to the East. He won a brilliant victory over the Germans and consolidated the Rheno-Danubian limes. After the capture of Valérien in the East, Gallien must face on all fronts. The Empire breaks up. Gaul, Spain, Germania and Brittany secede with Postumus, who first eliminated Salonin, son of Gallien. It is the usurpation of Macrianus and Quietus in the East. Gallien will spend the last eight years of his life trying to put the pieces of this empire back together. Finally, he was assassinated in September 268 under the walls of Milan while besieging Aureolus, the master of the Cavalry, who revolted.
