Belle petite monnaie sur un flan large et scyphate avec une frappe vigoureuse. Patine sombre, sur un flan de bas aloi

Obverse description : Trois segments bouletés parallèles ; à gauche, un segment tourné à gauche ; le tout dans un grènetis perlé.

Reverse


Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Cheval filiforme galopant à gauche ; au-dessus, motif en V ; entre les jambes du cheval, annelet perlé centré d’un globule ; devant le cheval, un astre attaché à la bouche du cheval.

Commentary


Très intéressante monnaie, en or pâle, rappelant l’exacte réduction modulaire des statères à l'œil des Rèmes avec le même annelet perlé sous le cheval et le même motif en V au-dessus du cheval.
Ce type précis appartient à la classe XVII de J.-M. Doyen.

GALLIA BELGICA - REMI (Area of Reims)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Remi were one of the most powerful peoples of Gaul and loyal allies of the Romans. The territory of the Rèmes extended over present-day Champagne, along the Aisne. They had for neighbors the Atuatuci, the Treveri, the Mediomatrics, the Lingones, the Suessions, the Bellovaci and the Nervians. They denounced to Caesar the coalition of Belgian peoples of 57 BC which included the Suessions who shared the same laws and the same magistrates. Their main oppidum was Bibrax. The capital of the civitas in Gallo-Roman times was Durocortorum (Reims). Caesar (BG. II, 3-5, 7, 12; III, 11; V, 3, 24, 53, 54, 56; VI, 4, 12, 44; VII, 63, 90; VIII, 6, 11) . Strabo (G. IV, 3, 5).
