Au début des années 1970, la République fédérale d’Allemagne (RFA) signe plusieurs traités avec les pays de l’Est, notamment avec l’Union soviétique, la Pologne, la Tchécoslovaquie et la RDA. Ces "traités d’Orient" (en allemand Ostverträge) sont une partie importante de la politique de détente (Ostpolitik) menée par le chancelier Willy Brandt. La RFA y reconnaît les frontières issues de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, comme la ligne Oder-Neisse avec la Pologne. Ces accords visent à améliorer les relations Est-Ouest en pleine Guerre froide.
Medal in capsule. In the early 1970s, the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) signed several treaties with Eastern Bloc countries, including the Soviet Union, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the GDR. These \\\"Eastern Treaties\\\" (in German Ostverträge) were an important part of Chancellor Willy Brandt's policy of détente (Ostpolitik). In them, the FRG recognized the borders resulting from the Second World War, such as the Oder-Neisse line with Poland. These agreements aimed to improve East-West relations during the Cold War.

The Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) established its capital in Bonn until reunification.
