Commentary


La faculté de médecine de Paris est l'une des quatre composantes de l'Université de Paris avec la faculté de théologie, la faculté de droit et la faculté des arts ou lettres. En 1789, elle se composait de cent cinquante deux docteurs dont sept étaient attitrés pour enseigner la matière médicale, la physiologie, la pathologie, la pharmacie, les accouchements, la chirurgie française et la chirurgie latine. La faculté de médecine était dirigée par un doyen qui était aussi chargé de former le tribunal de l'Université avec les doyens de théologie et de droit et les quatre procureurs de la faculté des arts. Le doctorat en médecine était obtenu après six années d'étude et l'obtention des grades de bachelier, licencié et enfin docteur. Michel-Louis Reneaume, seigneur de la Garanne est un descendant de Paul Reneaume, médecin botaniste de Blois. Né en 1676, membre de l’Académie des sciences en 1699, docteur de la Faculté de Paris en 1700 et chargé du cours de chirurgie latine à la Faculté de Paris. Il est doyen de 1734 à 1736. Il a laissé son nom à une plante appelée en son honneur “renealmia”. Son décanat se place entre celui de Hyacinthe-Théodore Baron (1731-1732) et celui de Louis Claude Bourdelin (1736-1738).

The Faculty of Medicine was headed by a dean who was also responsible for forming the University tribunal with the deans of theology and law and the four procurators of the Faculty of Arts. The doctorate in medicine was obtained after six years of study and the attainment of the degrees of bachelor, licentiate and finally doctor.. Michel-Louis Reneaume, lord of Garanne, is a descendant of Paul Reneaume, botanist doctor from Blois. Born in 1676, member of the Academy of Sciences in 1699, doctor of the Faculty of Paris in 1700 and in charge of the course in Latin surgery at the Faculty of Paris. He was dean from 1734 to 1736. He left his name to a plant called in his honor “renealmia”. His deanship is placed between that of Hyacinthe-Théodore Baron (1731-1732) and that of Louis Claude Bourdelin (1736-1738)
