En 1689, avec l’accord du parlement, Guillaume III et Marie II deviennent conjointement roi et reine d’Angleterre en 1689. En 1894, Marie décède de la variole. Guillaume III gouverne jusqu’à sa mort en 1702.

William III (1650-1702), Prince of Orange (1650-1702), Stadtholder of Holland (1672-1702), King of England (1689-1702), was the son of William II of Orange-Nassau and Marie-Henriette Stuart (daughter of Charles I of England and Henriette-Marie of France). He married his cousin Mary II Stuart (1662-1694), daughter of James II of England and Anne Hyde. When the revolution of 1688 drives out his father-in-law and uncle, William is called upon to share the throne of Great Britain with his wife. After the latter's death, he reigned alone from 1694 to 1702. After his death, his sister-in-law Anne (1665-1714), second daughter of Jacques, succeeded him..
