Commentary
The shields surrounding the shield of Lorraine reflect the achievements and claims of the Dukes of Lorraine over the centuries. Claims to the crown of Aragon date back to 1375, when Isabella of Montferrat, daughter of James III and his heiress, ceded her father's estates to the Duke of Anjou.
