Obverse description : Buste drapé à droite, la chevelure se terminant par une longue queue de cheval repliée sur elle même (L).
Obverse translation : “Diva Domitilla Augusta”, (La divine Domitille augusta).

Reverse


Reverse legend : FORTVNA - AVGVST.
Reverse description : Fortuna (la Fortune) drapée debout à gauche, tenant le gouvernail de la main droite et une corne d’abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Fortvna Avgvsti”, (La Fortune de l’auguste).

Commentary


Monnaie fourrée. Faux d’époque. Ce denier est de la plus grande rareté. Attribué par Giard au règne de Titus en 80-81, il est rendu par Carradice et Buttrey à celui de Domitien en 82-83.

Domitilla is the wife of Vespasian and the mother of Titus, Domitian and Domitilla. She died before Vespasian's accession to the throne in 69. Her memory was honored by her two sons, Titus and Domitian.
