Exemplaire sur un flan épais, bien centré des deux côtés, de frappe faible sur une partie des légendes. Beau portrait. Revers de joli style. Jolie patine vert foncé, légèrement granuleuse et grattée dans le champ du revers

Obverse description : Buste radié de Domitien à droite avec l’égide sur l’épaule (O4).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Domitianus Augustus Germanicus Consul duodecimum Censor Perpetuus Pater Patriæ”, (L'empereur césar Domitien auguste germanique, consul pour la douzième fois, censeur perpétuel, père de la patrie).

Reverse legend : VIRTV[TI) - AVGVSTI/ S|C.
Reverse description : Minerve ou Virtus (la Virilité), casquée et drapée debout à droite, le pied droit posé sur un casque, tenant le parazonium de la main gauche et un long sceptre ou une javeline de la main droite.
Reverse translation : “Virtuti Augusti”, (À la Virilité de l'auguste).
Commentary
Ce revers se rencontre aussi pour l’as. Mais il semble complètement inédit et non répertorié pour le dupondius. Il n’est signalé que par les auteurs du BMC, comme provenant de la collection Tinchant en 1929. Très belle égide sur le buste.

Augustus
Domitian, born in 51, became august in 81, succeeding his brother. In 86, the Capitoline games were organized for the first time. The Flavian Palace is erected on the Palatine. In 88, the secular games were celebrated with pomp. A first campaign is launched on Dacia which ends with a peace of compromise, leaving Decebalus master of the situation. Domitian has just won a brilliant campaign against the Sarmatians and the Suevi (IMP XXII). Agricola died in disgrace on August 23, 93. In 95, Domitian had Flavius Clemens, his cousin, executed. The following year, Domitian will be assassinated at the instigation of his wife and the prefect of the Praetorium.
