Commentary

Les carrés de cette médaille ont été réalisés en mai 1849 par Gayrard suite à un traité passé le 19 mai 1849 avec le questeur de l’Assemblée nationale pour la somme de 1800 francs (Launay, p. 216).
Médaille, conservée dans un écrin vert gaufré de lettres dorées : MAIGNE, F. / HAUTE-LOIRE, attribuée en 1849 à Julien Louis Maigne (1816-1893), député de la Haute-Loire de 1849 à 1850 puis de 1876 à 1885 et de 1889 à 1893. Cette médaille lui fut remise pour son premier mandat. Professeur à Paris, il prend part aux journées de février et sera député de la Haute-Loire siégeant à la Montagne. Compromis dans l'affaire du 13 juin 1850, il est arrêté, déporté et déchu de son mandat parlementaire. Il s'exile à Genève et ne revient qu'à la fin de l'Empire. (cf. Wikipedia).
The squares of this medal were made in May 1849 by Gayrard following a treaty signed on May 19, 1849 with the quaestor of the National Assembly for the sum of 1800 francs (Launay, p. 216). Medal, kept in a green case embossed with gold letters: MAIGNE, F. / HAUTE-LOIRE, awarded in 1849 to Julien Louis Maigne (1816-1893), deputy of Haute-Loire from 1849 to 1850 then from 1876 to 1885 and from 1889 to 1893. This medal was awarded to him for his first term. A professor in Paris, he took part in the February days and was deputy of Haute-Loire sitting in the Mountain. Compromised in the June 13, 1850 affair, he was arrested, deported, and stripped of his parliamentary mandate. He went into exile in Geneva and did not return until the end of the Empire.
