Exceptionnelle représentation du diable et d’une scène d'exorcisme. Pour l’Église et malgré la résurrection du Christ, l’esprit du mal existe toujours et peut s’emparer de l’esprit de quelqu’un pour le posséder. Cette possession apparaît dans les sectes apocalyptiques juives peu avant le Christ et on en rencontre de nombreux exemples dans le Nouveau Testament. La possession par le diable se rencontre essentiellement dans le christianisme. À l’aide de prières et de rites, l’exorcisme va chasser l’esprit du mal d’une personne possédée. Le rituel actuel, très codifié, date du XVIIe siècle “Exorciso te, immundissime spiritus, omnis incursio adversarii, omne phantasma, omnis legio, in nomine Domini nostri Jesus Christi, eradicare, et effugare ab hoc plasmate dei”.

In Rome, groups of artisans already existed: forming a college placed under the protection of a divinity, with a common house and fund. In medieval Europe, probably from religious brotherhoods, economic groups were formed between merchants called hanse or ghilde.. With the development of trade, craftsmen organized themselves into trade bodies or communities which brought together all those who practiced the same profession: masters, journeymen or apprentices..
