Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale et irrégulier, centré des deux côtés. Belle représentation du Christ. Usure régulière. Très joli revers bien venu à la frappe, de haut relief. Belle patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Le Christ Antiphonetes assis de face sur un trône à dossier, vêtu du pallium et du colombium, tenant les Évangiles des deux mains.

Reverse description : en trois lignes surmontées de deux croisettes.

Commentary


Poids lourd. Follis anonyme, classe D. Le nimbe crucigère est orné d’un globule. Les Évangiles sont ornés d’un motif décoratif formé de cinq globules posés en carré et centré. Croisette accostée de deux tildes au-dessus de la légende de revers et croissant au-dessous avec les mêmes traits abréviatifs.
Heavyweight. Anonymous Follis, class D. The cruciform nimbus is decorated with a globule. The Gospels are decorated with a decorative motif formed by five globules placed in a square and centered. Cross flanked by two tildes above the reverse legend and crescent below with the same abbreviated lines.

CONSTANTINE IX MONOMACHOS

Constantine IX succeeded Michael V and brought Basil II's daughters Zoe and Theodora back to court. He married the second. Constantinople experienced an artistic renaissance under his reign to the detriment of the Treasury. It was in 1054 that the Great Schism occurred between the Church of Constantinople and that of Rome, at the origin of the birth of the Orthodox who no longer recognize the supremacy of the bishop of Rome. Constantine died in 1055. It was Theodora who succeeded him for only 7 months, the last descendant of the Macedonian dynasty.
