Ce jeton fut frappé pour commémorer la naissance du dauphin, le 11 novembre 1781, probablement sur demande de la ville de Strasbourg dont le lis de type florentin est repris au revers de cet exemplaire. La forme hexagonale rappelle celle de monnaies locales de l’époque pré-française.
This token was struck to commemorate the birth of the Dauphin on 11 November 1781, probably at the request of the city of Strasbourg, whose Florentine-type lily is reproduced on the reverse of this example. The hexagonal shape is reminiscent of local coins from the pre-French era.
