Obverse legend : AA CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MARSEILLE (TRIANGLE).
Obverse description : Au centre, le blason de la ville de Marseille représentant une croix d’azur, symbole de l’embarquement des croisés vers la Terre Sainte. Le blason est surmonté d’une couronne. En dessous, dans une banderole, le nom latin de la ville : “MASSILIA CIVITAS”. Derrière le blason et ressortant vers la gauche : une corne d’abondance ; ressortant vers la droite, le trident de Neptune. En médaillon au-dessus de l’ensemble, le buste de Mercure regard vers la gauche ; à sa gauche, le nom latin da la Gaule : GALLIA ; à sa droite, l’année : 1916..

At the end of the war of 14-18, there is no more money. Cities and Chambers of Commerce which already had the right to issue banknotes, in particular in the occupied zone, will have the possibility of circulating emergency banknotes which help monetary circulation. This type of official coin responds to the same request. It does not bear the words REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE or LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE, but "CHAMBRES DE COMMERCE" followed by the name of the town or region. Despite the will of the authorities, these coins could never be minted in silver, the majority being in aluminum.
