Reverse legend : PERPETVITATE AVG// VXXI.
Reverse description : Securitas (la Sécurité) drapée, debout à gauche, tenant un globe de la main droite et un sceptre transversal de la main gauche, son bras gauche appuyé sur une colonne.
Reverse translation : “Perpetuitate Augusti”, (De l’immortalité de l’auguste).
Commentary
Sans argenture. Revers tout à fait inhabituel. Semble totalement inédit et absent de tous les ouvrages consultés, néanmoins, le revers présente une homotypie de contiguïté avec les exemplaires du trésor de La Venèra (n° 269-271, pl. 5). Nous avons déjà présenté une monnaie avec cette titulature de revers dans MONNAIES VII du 26 Juillet 1999, n° 362.

Seems to be completely unpublished and absent from all the works consulted, nevertheless, the reverse presents a homotypy of contiguity with the examples of the treasure of La Venèra (no. 269-271, pl. 5). Historical background
CARUS
(09/282-07/283)
Carus is proclaimed in Rhaetia at the end of August 282. Probus is assassinated in Sirmium. Carus entrusts the rank of Caesar to his eldest son Carin at the end of October, then to his other son, Numérien, in December. Carus named his august sons in March 283. In the spring of 283, he began a brilliant campaign against the Sassanids, took Ctesiphon, their capital, but was struck down by lightning in July 283. Numerian, who accompanied him, was charged with bringing back the troops.
