Commentary

Lightweight. Decorated helmet. For this type, Mr. Crawford noted an estimate of 102 obverse dies and 113 reverse dies. This type appears to be rarer than general works suggest. The authors of the CMDRR. noted five varieties based on the obverse, with the helmet smooth or decorated with a palmette, and the reverse with variations in the legend. This example is reproduced in the work CMDRR., p. 558, no. 547

Historical background

CARISIA

(46 BC)

The monetary college of 46 BC includes three monetary: Manius Cordus Rufus, Titus Carisius and Caius Considius Pætus. Titus Carisius exalts Caesar's origins in his monetary iconography and participates in the celebration of Caesar's quadruple triumph that year. Vercingetorix, after having participated in the triumph of the imperator, is strangled at the Mamertine. The career of Titus Carisius is poorly known outside of his monetary triumvirate.
