Commentary
R. Ashton nous indique pour ce monétaire : “Die-linking is particularly close among the drachm issues of Gorgos, Peisikrates, Ainetor, Atistakos and Stasion”. Le même auteur signale encore : “Aristakos is an extremely rare name on Rhodes, and is otherwise known only as a hierope from Kamiros, Aristakos, the son of Hieron who appears on an inscription dating to c. 215 ; he is probably the same man as the moneyer.
Light weight. Traces of die breakage visible on both sides. We did not find any relevant die identities with the three examples in the Keckman collection (SNG Finland I, nos. 588 to 590) and the example from the Berk 91 catalogue, 1996, no. 95. We therefore have five obverse dies and five reverse dies for five examples. The name Aristakos is used only once for the drachma and seems much rarer. It is also found on the didrachm of the same type, but associated with a cult statue (Ashton no. 272). R. Ashton tells us for this coin: “Die-linking is particularly close among the drachm issues of Gorgos, Peisikrates, Ainetor, Atistakos and Stasion”. The same author further points out: “Aristakos is an extremely rare name on Rhodes, and is otherwise known only as a hierope from Kamiros, Aristakos, the son of Hieron who appears on an inscription dating to c. 215; he is probably the same man as the moneyer
