Canac (or Cannac) corresponds to various hamlets mostly in Aveyron and Tarn. Note that Canac and Cannac are also surnames. Possible meaning of Can(n)ac: the domain of Canus or Canius (Latin personal names). Located in Aveyron, the commune of Durenque (on which Canac depends, considered as the Merovingian workshop) has been occupied since the Neolithic era. At the confluence of the two natural regions of Ségala and Lévézou, the town takes its name of pre-Celtic origin from the river that crosses it (originally called the Dure). Sarcophagi, perhaps Merovingian, have been discovered in the old cemetery of Durenque, near the church.
