Flan irrégulier, très large pour ce type avec un beau petit portrait. Légèrement décentré au revers sur la tête du taureau. Flan un peu piqué et corrodé

Obverse description : Tête de la nymphe Parthénopé ou Néapolis à droite, la chevelure bouclée, ceinte d’un bandeau avec collier et boucles d’oreille ; derrière la tête, restes d’une petite Artémis courant à droite tenant deux torches.

Commentary
Semble inédit et non répertorié avec cette combinaison de droit et de revers. Manque aux principaux ouvrages consultés. Sur notre exemplaire, la petite Artémis est en partie hors champ bien que le flan soit très large. Deux lettres semblent émerger en exergue sous le cou de la nymphe. Au revers les deux lettres sous le taureau sont bien MT et non pas MY.

On our example, the little Artemis is partly out of focus although the flan is very wide. Two letters seem to emerge in exergue under the nymph's neck. Historical background
CAMPANIA - NEAPOLIS
(340-241 BC)
Neapolis, of very ancient creation, was first founded by Rhodian settlers under the name of Parthenope in the 8th century BC. The city was then colonized by the inhabitants of Cumae a century later. In the 5th century BC under the impetus of Chalcidian and Athenian colonists, the city took its definitive name of Neapolis (Naples). The Samnites eventually invaded Campania and occupied the citadel of Naples for over fifty years. Finally the Romans seized Naples in the 3rd century BC. The city nevertheless remained Hellenized and maintained its independence until 241 BC..
