Les 303.000 exemplaires frappés correspondraient à toutes les pièces de 1851 ; celles avec le buste habillé et celles avec le buste nu.
Historical background
BRAZIL - EMPIRE OF BRAZIL - PETER II
(1831-1889)
Peter II (1825-1891) is the eldest son of Peter I of Braganza and Leopoldine of Habsburg. His father abdicated in his favor in 1831. Pierre II married Thérèse de Bourbon in 1843. He had to face the wars against Argentina (1851-1852) and Paraguay (1865-1870). The abolition of slavery in 1888 sounded the death knell for the Brazilian monarchy. Peter II was overthrown in November 1889. He died two years later in exile.
