Commentary

Coin of a very rare type. The horse is clearly androcephalic and the charioteer holds a torque (?) balled without the third globule which usually ends the horse's mane. The few rare examples of this type had been sold during the dispersal of collections such as that of A. Trampitsch at Jean VINCHON

Historical background

GALLIA - AULERCI DIABLINTES (Area of Jublain)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Aulerci are a very large people who are subdivided into three large tribes, including the Aulerci Diablintes who were located to the northwest of the Aulerci Cénomans, in the Mayenne basin. Gold coins are attributed to them, of the Cenoman type but with a particular reverse, as well as weakly represented billon coins, known from surface research and excavations of the late sanctuary of Juvigné..
