Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Quatre bustes de chevaux placés en croix autour d’un annelet central. Globule, annelets et annelets pointés en cantonnement.

Reverse


Reverse legend : [...]AVIVA (?).
Reverse description : Cheval à gauche, le corps formé de deux annelets rejoints entre eux. Un annelet derrière la crinière sur le dos et légende au-dessus.

Commentary


Si la légende AVAVCIA est nette sur l'exemplaire BN 8885 illustrant le RIG., celle de cet exemplaire, bien que partiellement hors flan, semble plutôt se terminer par [...]AVIVA ou [...]AVNA. Il se trouve un annelet entre le dos du cheval et la légende. La plupart des exemplaires photographiés dans les publications de musées (Lyon, Péronne ou British) sont de médiocre qualité.
If the legend AVAVCIA is clear on the example BN 8885 illustrating the RIG., that of this example, although partially off-flank, seems rather to end with [...]AVIVA or [...]AVNA. There is a ringlet between the horse's back and the legend. Most of the examples photographed in museum publications (Lyon, Péronne or British) are of poor quality

ATUATUCI (Currently Belgium)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

The Atuatuques, people of Belgian Gaul, were located on the territory of present-day Belgium between the banks of the Sambre and the Meuse in the present-day provinces of Liège and Namur. They were of Germanic origin and believed to be the descendants of a detachment of Cimbri and Teutons settled during the invasions of 115-101 BC Caesar (BG. II, 4, 16, 29, 31; V, 27, 38, 39, 56; VI, 2, 33).
