Commentary
Of a very beautiful style and remarkable preservation, this denarius nevertheless seems to be unclassifiable. The legend on the reverse, if it is indeed the mint, could point to an attribution towards MAVGONACVM, MAVRIACUM, MAVRIENNA, MAVRILIACVM or MAVREGONNA. It is unlikely that MAV is the beginning of MAVRINVS, minted in Poitiers and Orléans (the style being very different)
