Historical background

ARGOLIS - HERMIONE

(4th - 3rd century BC)

Hermione controlled by Argos in the 6th century BC regained her independence and participated in the Persian Wars on the Greek side. Allied with Athens, it approached Corinth. Its territory was devastated during the Peloponnesian War and then remained faithful to the Spartan alliance until 369 BC. Its history remains poorly known for the 4th century BC but participated in the Lamiac War after the death of Alexander III the Great. Throughout the 3rd century, it was ruled by pro-Macedonian tyrants before joining the Achaean League in 229 BC..
