Ce baudequin ou tiers de gros est frappé sur un flan large et irrégulier. Exemplaire présentant quelques faiblesses de frappe et recouvert d’une patine grise de médaillier hétérogène. La croix du revers apparaît en négatif au droit

Obverse description : Louis en armure sur un cheval caparaçonné et drapé. Il tient un bouclier aux armes de la main gauche, un étendard de la main droite coupant la légende à 11 heures.

Monnaie semblant unique et inédite, du plus grand intérêt historique, avec le nom latin d’Ivoix IVVONIENSIS CASTR apparaissant pour la première fois sur une espèce monétaire et confirmant la frappe dans cet atelier, attestée par ailleurs dans des documents d’archives.

ARDENNES - COUNTY OF CHINY - LOUIS V OF LOON
(1268-1299)
Louis V de Looz, is the son of Arnold II (1226-1268). For the county of Chiny, his workshop was established in Ivoix, a town which took the name of Carignan in the 17th century when it fell to a younger branch of the Savoie-Carignan family. His nephew, Arnould III de Chiny, V de Looz, succeeded him in 1299.
