Exemplaire sur un flan large, centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait altier de Rome. Revers de style fin avec une usure superficielle. Jolie patine grise avec des reflets dorés

Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de 370 coins de droit et de 462 coins de revers pour deux variétés. C’est l’un des deniers républicains les plus courants du monnayage avec une production dépassant certainement le million de deniers frappés. Sur notre exemplaire, le V pointé au-dessus est placé au-dessus du quadrige.

The Appuleian gens is of plebeian origin. Lucius Appuleius Saturninus was quaestor in 104 BC, then twice tribune of the plebs in 103 and 100 BC. Supporter of Marius and demagogue, he was assassinated by the patricians, who brought down the roof of the Curia on him before his discharge.
