Reverse description : Cheval étiré galopant à droite, conduit par les restes d’un aurige destructuré au-dessus ; la crinière terminée par un triangle bouleté ; entre les jambes du cheval, un astre et un annelet perlé.
Commentary
Ce statère appartient à la deuxième phase du monnayage ambien ; les flans ont tendance à être plus étroits et à s’épaissir, mais les monnaies sont toujours bifaces, avec une tête stylisée au droit. Bien que figurant déjà dans le Lambert en 1864 (pl. VI, n° 5), ce type précis semble très rare et manque à tous les musées consultés. Cet exemplaire correspond exactement au DT. 163 qui constitue la var. 3 de la classe II “dérivés de l’ouest” pour la série des statères bifaces de flan court.
