Commentary
Ce quart de statère est de mêmes coins que l'exemplaire MONNAIES XV, n° 1195 qui semblait complètement inédit et non répertorié. Semble être un hybride ou une synthèse entre les séries "à la tête d'indien" et "biface" des Ambiens. Notre exemplaire est de poids lourd et il semble en bon or ce qui pourrait indiquer une série relativement ancienne.
Plusieurs provenances nous ont été signalées dans l'Aube.
This quarter stater is of the same dies as the example COINS XV, n° 1195 which seemed completely unpublished and unlisted. Seems to be a hybrid or a synthesis between the \\\"Indian head\\\" and \\\"biface\\\" series of the Ambiens. Our example is heavy and it seems to be in good gold which could indicate a relatively old series. Several provenances have been reported to us in the Aube

AMBIANI (Area of Amiens)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
Their name, "those who are on both sides of the river", indicates that the Ambiens, people of Belgian Gaul, occupied both banks of the Somme (Samara). Their territory corresponds to the current department of the Somme. Their neighbors were the Calètes, the Morins, the Atrébates, the Bellovaques. Their main oppidum was Samarobriva (near Amiens). They participated in the coalition of the Belgian peoples in 57 BC and provided a contingent of ten thousand men. In 52 BC, it was a contingent of five thousand men that they gave for the relief army dedicated to clearing Alesia. Caesar (BG. II, 4, 15; VII, 75; VIII, 7). Strabo (G. IV, 5). Kruta: 68, 110, 366.
