Commentary

Un des huit exemplaires de la planche "Descartes 1945". Avec filigrane, numéro et signatures. Alphabet 128, alors que le plus grand connu émis est 118. Surcharge ronde "Banque de France A.1945.A" et Banque de France en grandes cursives. Projet non émis pour la réutilisation des Descartes après la libération. Un exemplaire en spécimen illustré dans le livre de M.Camus Les Billets en Guerre, voir article Bulletin Numismatique avril 2025. Au dos 2778 en haut à droite. 1er billet de la planche.

Thanks to a few finds, the Descartes note is often in great condition. F.27.01 UNC alph.F.2 and M.5 F.27.03 AU alph.M.55 and N.55 F.27.04 UNC alph.B.81 F.27.05 UNC alph.V.87 and E.88 F.27.06 UNC alph.W.103 and R.104 F.27.07 UNC alph.F.109 F.27.08 UNC alph.K.117 and S.118 These series account for most of the Descartes known. Out of the 120 alphabets that were issued theoretically, only about 40 have been found!
