Kenneth Kaunda was a Zambian politician. He actively participated in the political recognition of black people in the colony of Northern Rhodesia, and later in the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. In 1964, he became the first president of independent Zambia and remained in power until 1991 under a one-party regime.
