Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale. Très beau portrait de Vitellius bien venu à la frappe. Revers inhabituel. Jolie patine de collection ancienne ave des reflets mordorés et bleutés irisés

Obverse translation : “Aulus Vitellius Germanicus Imperator Augustus Tribunicia Potestas”, (Aulus Vitellius germanique empereur auguste revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne).
Reverse
Reverse legend : PONT - MAXIM.
Reverse description : Vesta voilée et drapée assise à droite sur un trône à dossier, tenant une patère de la main droite et un sceptre long de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus”, (Grand pontife).

Vitellius was proclaimed on January 1 or 2, 69 by the armies of Germania. After Bédriac and the disappearance of Othon, in April 69, Vitellius moved to Rome in June. Vespasian was proclaimed by the army in Alexandria on July 1, 69 and Vitellius could not maintain himself. After a sedition broke out in Rome in December, he was assassinated on the 20th, and his body dragged into the Tiber, leaving Vespasian as sole ruler of the Roman Empire..
