Historical background

VICTORIN

(10-11/269-09/271) Marcus Piavvonius Victorinus

Victorin has spent his entire career in the reign of Postumus he was one of the main civilian employees. He succeeded Marius, who died just after Posthumus. Victorin permanently lost Spain at the beginning of the reign and had to face sedition in Britain and Gaul. The Siege of Autun, the university city of Gaul, lasted seven months. Shortly after, Victorin was assassinated in Cologne by one of his officers, a jealous husband, when he came to restore order in Gaul with the Autun taken. His mother, Victorine, continued to play an important role in choosing the successor to his son, Tetricus.
