Exemplaire sur un petit flan mince bien centré. Beau portrait de Vétranion. Joli revers de style fin. Patine vert foncé, légèrement granuleuse

Reverse legend : VIRTVS AV-G-VSTORVM/ -|-// (GAMMA)SIS.
Reverse description : L'empereur debout à droite, vêtu militairement, tenant de la main droite une haste transversale et de la gauche, un globe ; à ses pieds, un captif assis à droite, tournant la tête à gauche.
Reverse translation : “Virtus Augustorum”, (La Virilité des augustes).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. La légende de revers s’adresse à Vétranion et à Constance II. L’exemplaire de MONNAIE 31, n° 662 s’est vendu 380€ en SUP.

Historical background


VETRANIO

(1/03-25/12/350)

Commander in Illyria, Vetranion, is immediately proclaimed after the death of Constans. Constantia, Constance's sister and Hanniballien's widow, convinces him to accept the purple. Magnentius tries to negotiate with Vétranion who finally rallies to Constantius II. He abdicated before the Emperor on December 25, 350 and retired to Prusa in Bithynia, where he died in 356.
