Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un petit flan bien centré, un peu court sur les légendes. Très beau portrait expressif de Vétranion. Joli revers de style fin. Très belle patine vert foncé. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Reverse description : L'empereur debout à gauche, diadémé, vêtu militairement, tenant dans chaque main un labarum chrismé, surmonté d'une étoile.
Reverse translation : “Concordia Militum”, (La Concorde des soldats).

Commentary


Poids très lourd. Normalement taillé au 1/72 L., mais plutôt au 1/60 L. (poids théorique 5,41 g). Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Ptéryges bouletées sous le paludamentum. Buste large.

VETRANIO

(1/03-25/12/350)

Commander in Illyria, Vetranion, is immediately proclaimed after the death of Constans. Constantia, Constance's sister and Hanniballien's widow, convinces him to accept the purple. Magnentius tries to negotiate with Vétranion who finally rallies to Constantius II. He abdicated before the Emperor on December 25, 350 and retired to Prusa in Bithynia, where he died in 356.
