Exemplaire sur un petit flan, ovale, irrégulier et légèrement éclaté, bien centré des deux côtés. Superbe portrait de Vespasien. Revers de style fin. Jolie patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés

Obverse description : Tête laurée de Vespasien à droite (O*).

Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Vespasianus Augustus”, (L’empereur césar Vespasien auguste).

Reverse

Reverse legend : AVGVR (AU-DESSUS)// PON MAX (À L'EXERGUE).

Reverse description : Instruments pontificaux : simpulum, aspersoir, capis (vase à sacrifice) et lituus.

Reverse translation : “Augurus// Pontifex Maximus”, (Augure, grand pontife).

Commentary

Pour ce type qui semble anodin, nous avons deux types de revers différents : le premier avec AVGVR/ PON MAX (RIC. 29) comme sur notre exemplaire et le second avec TRI POT (RIC 30), deniers qui ont tous les deux été frappés en 70-71 et font référence au grand pontificat et à l’aspect sacré de celui qui est revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne. Le revers est inspiré par le denier d’Octave (RCV. 1544). Ce type semble beaucoup plus rare.
