Denier bien frappé et recouvert d’une patine grise de médaillier. Une partie de la tête apparaît en négatif au revers et la croix du revers apparaît légèrement en négatif au droit

VENDÔMOIS - COUNTY OF VENDÔME - FOULQUES L'OISON

(1050-1066)

The reign of Foulques l'Oison is inserted between those of Geoffroy Martel (1020-1031) and Bouchard IV (1066-1085) under the tutelage of Guy de Nevers. The attribution of Vendôme coins to Foulques l'Oison is based solely on the Vernou treasury (Vernon, Dy. I/372), buried between 1060 and 1108. The S type seems to mark the end of Vendôme coinage around 1165. No coins seem to be attributable to the three counts who succeeded Foulques l'Oison: Bouchard IV (1066-1085), Geoffroy Jourdain (1085-1102) and Geoffroy Grisegonelle (1102-1136). The coinage of Vendôme would reappear under Jean I (1136-1192).
