VATICAN - PIE XI (Achille Ratti)

(1922-1939)

Born in 1857, Achille Ratti is a priest in 1879. It is nuncio in Warsaw between 1918 and 1921 and became Cardinal Archbishop of Milan and the successor to Benedict XV February 6, 1922 under the name of Pius XI. "Pope of the Missions", it is also very attached to enter the Christian spirit in legislation and is causing many concordats with Czechoslovakia, Romania, Yugoslavia, Portugal, the Baltic States. It also gets the restoration of normal relations with the Italian state during the Lateran Treaty (1929).
