Commentary

Cette médaille illustre bien le dialogue oecuménique cher à Paul VI.
Athénagoras Ier de Constantinople est né Aristokles Spyrou à Vasilikón, près de Ioánnina, dans la région de l'Épire en Grèce, le 25 mars 1886. Il est mort à Istanbul le 7 juillet 1972. Il fut patriarche de Constantinople du 1er novembre 1948 au 7 juillet 1972..
